Description: Native to parts of Texas. Unusual prickly pear with long, narrow pads resembling a cow's tongue. Grows in wide, spreading clumps and produces large yellow blooms, attractive to pollinators, in spring followed by red, edible fruit. Heat- and drought-tolerant once established. Prefers full sun and well-drained, rocky soil. Spines are sparse to moderate depending on the plant. Excellent for use in dry borders, native gardens, or as a living barrier.
