Description: Adapted. Large, solitary globular cactus of northwestern Argentina, known for heavily ribbed, blue-green body and distinctive, recurved spines. Common name comes from squat, chin-like form that slowly enlarges with age. In spring to early summer, mature plants may produce pollinator attracting pale pink to white funnel-shaped flowers near the crown. Prefers full sun but appreciates light afternoon shade in extreme heat or when grown in containers. Requires well-draining soil and sparse watering during cooler months. A low-profile yet bold specimen for rock gardens, containers, or desert-style beds.
