Description: Adapted false agave. Soft-leaved succulent; wide, sword-like green leaves lacking significant marginal teeth. Smoother more approachable form than many agaves. Large, arching rosette with tropical character. Not technically monocarpic (plants may survive flowering) but often die after sending up a towering 20-25ft bloom spike, at 8-15 years. Greenish-white flowers attract pollinators. Offsets occasionally and may also produce bulbils along the flower spike. Tolerant of heat; drought but benefits from afternoon shade in hot; highly reflective sites. Well-drained soil; requires protection from hard freezes; extended winter moisture. Best used in protected xeric landscapes or as a bold container specimen.
