Description: Adapted fan palm. Fountain-like crown; deeply divided, drooping fronds; softer, more weeping texture than stiffer fan palms. May through July, small creamy-white flowers; followed by clusters of round blue-green to black fruit which can persist into winter and are popular with birds. Well-drained soil. Will tolerate some afternoon shade. Relatively cold-hardy. Younger specimens can be damaged by freezes below 20F; established trees recover more reliably but still need protection in severe winters. Deer resistant. Use as specimen palm or accent where arching canopy softens hardscapes and provides lush, tropical effect in courtyards, entryways, or near patios.
