Description: Adapted. Towering height; massive, silver-blue, fan-shaped fronds. Late spring small, fragrant flowers produce inedible fruit. Wind-pollinated. Needs very well-drained soils. Once established, somewhat drought tolerant, but performs best with occasional deep irrigation. Deer resistant. High salt tolerance once established. Marginal in Austin; young plants are especially cold-sensitive, and otherwise established plants need wrapping and crown protection in winter. Site in warm protected microclimates. Use in large landscapes, estates, or commercial plantings where size and color can be properly showcased.
