IVY HEDERA #1
$18.00 / EA

Botanical Name: Hedera spc. (H. helix, H. hibernica, H. canariensis)

Mature Size: 20-80ft H, 6-20ft W, Some Varieties Highly Aggressive in Ground

Light Requirement: Sun to Shade, Variety Dependent

Water Need: Medium

Cold Hardiness:  Zone 6 (-10 to -5F) to 9 (25 to 30F)

Description: Adapted. Evergreen climbing/trailing vines that adhere to surfaces with aerial rootlets, making them capable of scaling walls, trees, and fences without support. Valued for year-round foliage and adaptability to a variety of soils and exposures. Best placed in shaded or morning-sun sites to reduce leaf scorch, though some species tolerate more sun. All species can become invasive in irrigated landscapes and riparian corridors, where they may smother trees and displace native understory plants. Require regular pruning to contain growth and protect structures from damage. Best reserved for controlled groundcover or shaded wall applications in well-contained spaces where spread can be actively managed

Common Types:
English Ivy: Small to medium lobed leaves, cold hardy to Zone 4, most shade-tolerant, can become invasive in shaded irrigated sites.

Irish Ivy: Larger leaves, faster growth, less cold hardy (Zone 6a), tolerates more sun and heat than H. helix, aggressive spreader if not contained.

Algerian Ivy: Largest leaves, thick texture, more heat tolerant, cold hardy to Zone 7b, prefers partial shade but can take morning sun, slower to establish but very vigorous once rooted.
