Description: Most adapted. Vine with wide range bloom times, colors, and forms, with types suited to both seasonal and year-round foliage. Moderately attractive to pollinators. Deciduous; Jackmanii (deep purple), Nelly Moser (pink with darker stripe), and native C. texensis hybrid Princess Diana (pink, tulip-shaped.) Blooms on new or old wood depending on group, often producing second flush in cooler months. These die back in winter and regrow vigorously in spring. Evergreen varieties such as C. armandii and Apple Blossom feature leathery green foliage; masses of fragrant white to pale pink flowers in early spring, retaining leaves most winters but possibly defoliating after hard freezes. Deciduous and evergreen types benefit from shaded roots, sturdy support, and morning sun with afternoon shade. Use on trellises, fences, arbors, or pergolas, for seasonal or evergreen coverage with flowers.
