Description: Hybrid series. Selected for compact form, extreme cold tolerance, and brilliant flower colors range from pink and coral to red and magenta. Attractive to pollinators. Variation in pad color, shape, and spine density varies by cultivar as well. Most stay under 10 inches tall but spread outward over time. All require full sun, sharply drained soils, and benefit from winter dryness. Handle with care -- some selections have dense spines. Exceptional beauty and resilience in cold, dry climates, these low-growing prickly pears are ideal for rock gardens, alpine-style xeriscapes, and container displays.
