Description: Adapted species group. Small, globular to short-columnar cacti with well-defined ribs and spines ranging from bristly to silky. Many varieties feature a central woolly crown from which bright, daisy-like flowers emerge in summer, often in yellow, orange, red, or pink. Some species remain solitary, while others form small clusters with age. After flowering, they produce small, fleshy fruits that may contain viable seed. Can be grown in containers or in-ground growth with protection from hard freezes. Ideal conditions include filtered sun to morning sun with afternoon shade, especially during extreme summer heat. Use fast-draining cactus soil, and water only when dry during the growing season. Provide cold protection or bring indoors during extended freezes.
