Description: Adapted. Upright columnar cactus of central Mexico. Prized for vertical form, clean ribbed lines, and soft green color. Often planted in rows as a living fence; sculptural accent. Can reach 10-15 feet tall in ideal conditions with time and protection. Stems are typically 4-6 inches thick, with short, widely spaced spines. Best in full sun but benefits from partial afternoon shade in containers or reflected heat zones. Requires excellent drainage and dry winter conditions to prevent rot. In large containers, typically grows to 4-6ft H and 2-3ft W over time. Rarely flowers in cultivation but may produce small pink to reddish blooms on older stems. Must receive winter protection. Ideal for vertical accents, screening, or container specimens in protected sites.
