Description: Adapted. Small, cylindrical cactus of northern Mexico and the southwestern U.S., named for tight, comb-like spine arrangement resembling rows of corn kernels. Stems gray-green and often solitary or slowly clumping. Spring large, showy pink to magenta flowers with pale centers that attract pollinators. Green to pinkish red follows. Prefers full sun, excellent drainage, and minimal water. Protection during hard freezes; needs dry winter conditions. A distinctive, low-profile cactus with eye-catching blooms and compact size. Ideal for rock gardens, crevice plantings, or small containers.
