Description: Adapted varieties. Grassy-looking, fine-textured rigid leaves with no side spine but a sharp terminal spine. Both species are monocarpic (die after blooming) although there are some offsets which can create a colony. Flower spikes, at 10-20 years, can reach up to 6-12 feet tall. Reddish-purple flowers attract pollinators. Best in full sun to partial shade, especially with reflected heat or container stress. Excellent for desert-themed gardens, rock gardens, or as low-profile architectural accent.
striata: Longer, wiry leaves; grasslike texture; flower spike up to 10-12 ft.
stricta: Stiffer, more upright leaves; hedgehog form; flower spike up to 6-7 ft.
