Description: Adapted. Cold-hardy. Thick, blue-gray leaves; margins feature small teeth; end in strong terminal spine. Foliage often displays deep bud imprinting. Tight, symmetrical rosette resembling a cabbage. Monocarpic (dies after flowering) rarely offsets. Flower spike, at 12-20 years, can reach 12-15 feet tall. Red to yellow blooms attract pollinators. Exceptionally tolerant of cold; heat when grown in well-drained soil. Ideal for containers, rock gardens, and exposed xeric landscapes where its clean form and bold color offer lasting impact.
