Upright with stout trunks and densely packed rosettes of rigid, sword-like leaves in tones ranging from deep green to silvery blue. Leaf tips are sharply pointed, and many varieties have wide, architectural foliage suited for high-impact focal points. In late spring to summer, tall, dramatic flower spikes rise 10-18ft H, topped with large clusters of creamy white, bell-shaped blooms that attract pollinators. Leaf structure is highly deer tolerant. Mature size varies by species and cultivar, with gloriosa staying shorter and treculeana or faxoniana reaching tree-like proportions. Performs well as a sculptural specimen or security barrier in expansive dry landscapes.
