Description: Larger than Mexican Sycamore. Fast-growing deciduous tree native to Texas and much of the eastern U.S. Noted for striking white and tan exfoliating bark and broad canopy. Large, maple-like leaves provide dense summer shade and turn yellow in fall. Tolerates heavy clay and urban conditions but performs best in deep, moist soils along creeks or in irrigated landscapes. Less drought tolerant than Mexican Sycamore. And prefers slightly more acidic soil. Best used in parks, large yards, or riparian zones. May be susceptible to anthracnose in wet springs but recovers well in Central Texas conditions.
