Botanical Name: Calandrinia spectabilis or Calandrinia grandiflora
Mature Size: 1-2ft H, 2-3ft W
Light Requirement: Sun to Partial Shade
Water Need: Low
Cold Hardiness: Zone 9 (20 to 25F) to 11 (above 40F)
Description: Adapted. Heat-tolerant, succulent perennials valued for vivid magenta blooms and long flowering season in hot, dry conditions. Both feature low-growing, fleshy foliage with tall, wiry flower stems attracting pollinators. Thrive in full sun but may benefit from light afternoon shade during extreme heat, especially in containers or areas with intense reflected light. Well-suited for rock gardens, borders, or containers where cold protection is possible. Excellent performance in poor, well-drained soils with full sun exposure. May behave as annuals or short-lived perennials depending on winter severity.
Spectabilis: Compact, gray-green foliage with prolific bright magenta flowers
Grandiflora: Slightly finer texture, equally floriferous with large vivid blooms
