Description: Adapted cycad. May form stout, woody trunk with age in protected sites, but often remains trunkless in Austin due to freeze damage. Glossy, stiff, feather-like fronds arise symmetrically from central crown, creating a classic mini palm look. Foliage may brown in freezes but established crowns usually resprout. Slow-growing. Drought tolerant once established but prefers occasional irrigation in summer. Foliage will look better with afternoon shade. Deer resistant. All parts, especially seeds, are highly toxic if ingested. Use as an architectural accent in beds or containers.
