Description: Native across East and Central Texas. Prevalent in riparian zones, floodplains, and shaded understories. Trunkless, shrubby fan palm. Leaves broad, fan-shaped, and evergreen, typically medium to deep green, forming compact crown. Thrives in seasonally moist soils but also drought tolerant once established. Late spring to summer, long sprays of small, fragrant, creamy-white flowers well above the leaves; attract native pollinators. Followed by clusters of small black fruits that provide food for wildlife. Excellent cold-resistance. Moderate to high salt tolerance. Deer resistant. Ideal for naturalized landscapes, understory accents, mass plantings, and shaded courtyards.
