Description: Adapted cycad. In Austin usually stays trunkless or short-trunked due to freeze dieback. Large, glossy, feather-like fronds arch dramatically, creating a lush, tropical effect. More cold-sensitive than Dioon edule, often requiring protection in severe winters. Moderate drought tolerance but benefits from irrigation in dry spells. Afternoon shade recommended. Deer resistant. All parts highly toxic if ingested. Use as a bold tropical focal point in containers.
