Coarser texture than other cycads. Sensitive to hard freezes and often dies back completely, but established crowns may resprout in spring. Drought tolerant once established, but benefits from supplemental irrigation in hot, dry summers. Afternoon shade recommended. Deer resistant. All parts highly toxic if ingested. Use as a tropical accent or container specimen, in protected courtyards or moveable containers, where bold foliage effect is desired.
