Description: An evergreen palm native to the US. Fan shaped fronds with thread-like fibers atop a sturdy trunk. Older, dead fronds will drop below giving the impression of a skirt and may reach the entire length of the trunk if not removed. Inconspicuous flowers in spring followed by fall fruit. Slower growing than Mexican Fan Palm which looks similar. Needs good drainage. Often used for shade in Austin.
