Description: Adapted. Single-trunk fan palm. Smooth gray trunk; broad, glossy green fronds. Spring to early summer cream-colored flowers followed by small dark fruits popular with wildlife. Wind pollinated. Best in well-drained soils with occasional supplemental water in hot, dry periods. More tolerant of shade than most hardy palms. Cold hardy into the upper teens, though fronds may show burn in prolonged freezes. Deer resistant. Best used as a specimen or accent palm in woodland settings where glossy green fan leaves can be appreciated up close.
