Description: Adapted, evergreen, twining vine; glossy, dark green leaves; small, pinwheel-shaped white flowers with a rich, sweet fragrance in late spring to early summer. May bloom again lightly in late summer or early fall. Attractive to bees. In highly reflective locations some afternoon shade is appreciated. Responds well to pruning, right after main spring bloom, to control size or maintain density. Leaves and stems contain compounds that can cause mild to moderate nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea if ingested, with severe cases rare but possible in small pets or children; the milky latex sap may also cause mild skin irritation in sensitive individuals. Deer-resistant and relatively pest-free. Excellent for adding evergreen coverage and strong spring fragrance to trellises, fences, arbors, or as a dense, fragrant groundcover.
