Description: Adapted. Deciduous climbing vine. Three-lobed leaves emerge reddish in spring, turn deep green in summer, and display vibrant scarlet to burgundy fall color. Clings to masonry, fences, and other surfaces with adhesive pads, requiring no additional support. Thrives in variety of soils and exposures, with fastest growth in sunny, irrigated sites. Can tolerate high heat and drought once established, but prolonged summer dryness can cause premature leaf drop. While not considered a major invasive risk in riparian areas, its aggressive climbing habit means it can overtake nearby vegetation or structures if left unmanaged. Prune in winter to control spread and keep growth off unwanted surfaces, as it can damage wood and paint over time. Excellent for quick, dense wall coverage with brilliant fall color, especially on masonry or large trellises.
