$20.00 / EA

Botanical Name:  Iris ensata Variegata

Mature Size: 2-3 ft H, 1.5-2 ft W

Light Requirement: Sun to Partial Shade

Water Need: Medium to High

Cold Hardiness:  Zone 5 (-20 to -10F) to 9 (20 to 30F)

Description: Striking perennial known for its sword-like green-and-white variegated foliage and elegant, ruffled flowers in shades of purple, violet, or blue. Performs best in moist, rich soils and is particularly well-suited for rain gardens, pond edges, or areas with supplemental irrigation. Foliage adds architectural interest even when not in bloom, and its tall flower stalks bloom in late spring to early summer. While more tolerant of heat and humidity than other irises, it benefits from partial shade during Austin's hottest months. A beautiful choice for woodland borders, water features, or decorative containers.

Common Varieties:

Variegata: Classic variegated form with purple blooms and white-striped foliage. Excellent contrast in garden beds and water-adjacent plantings.

Lion King: Deeply ruffled white flowers with rich purple edges; pairs well with variegated foliage for high visual impact.

Rose Queen: Soft rose-pink blooms atop tall stems; thrives in moist areas and offers a softer color palette for mixed borders.
