Botanical Name: Liriope gigantea (Liriope muscari Super Blue)
Mature Size: 18in H, 12-18in W
Light Requirement: Full Sun to Partial Shade
Water Need: Low to Medium
Cold Hardiness: Zone 7 (0 to 5F) to 10 (35 to 40F)
Description: Adapted. Clumping, evergreen with grass-like, glossy green foliage. Main draw are the especially tall spikes of deep violet-blue flowers (flower power) in late summer, followed by copious black berries which are mildly toxic. Only minor pollinator significance. Plants appreciate protection from late afternoon sun. Will grow in shade but growth is slower, less upright, and bloom production drops. Deer resistant and tolerant of heat, humidity, and a wide range of soils, provided they are well-drained. Once rooted, they can persist with occasional deep watering, especially during prolonged dry spells. Low-maintenance. Use for edging, borders, mass plantings, or as a shade-tolerant groundcover where a stronger floral display is desired.
