Description: A Texas native, also known as giant coneflower, this perennial has grayish green leaves on basal clumps. Tall flower stalks, March through September, carry brilliant yellow blooms with a substantial brown center. The plant is often found in moist roadside ditches and usually spreads by underground rhizomes. Viable flower seed is usually eaten by birds before it can reproduce new plants on the ground. Great in mass plantings. It will die back in the winter and return the following spring. Cut back to the ground after blooming to keep a neat appearance.
