Description: Hardy geraniums or cranesbills, are low-growing, mounding perennials with long-lasting blooms and attractive foliage. Perform best with morning sun and afternoon shade, as prolonged heat can stress plants. Adaptability, deer resistance, and ease of care. Many varieties produce profuse purple, blue, or pink blooms from late spring through early summer, with some reblooming in fall if cut back. Ideal for borders, cottage gardens, and underplanting shrubs, they appreciate well-drained soil and occasional summer watering to stay lush and full.

Common Varieties:

Rozanne: One of the most heat-tolerant varieties, with violet-blue blooms from late spring through fall. Spreading habit and excellent groundcover performance in part shade.

Johnsons Blue: Classic cultivar with sky-blue flowers and finely divided foliage. Long bloom period in spring and early summer. May go dormant in Austin's hottest months.

x c Biokovo: Compact form with fragrant, light pink flowers and good heat resistance. Spreads well and tolerates dry shade once established.

sanguineum: Low-growing, drought-tolerant variety with magenta flowers and deeply lobed leaves. More sun-tolerant than others, good for rocky or well-drained soils.
macrorrhizum: Aromatic foliage and pale pink to purple flowers. Excellent for dry shade and erosion control on slopes or under trees.
