Description: Evergreen shrub. The main family of blueberry that does well in Austin is the Rabbiteye although there are also several new hybrids available. Grow blueberries in containers to control the soil PH to an acidic level not possible with in-ground plants. Most plants require 400 to 650 winter "chill" hours and ripen from May through July, depending on the variety. Rabbiteye are not self-fruitful and require more than 1 variety to produce. Make sure to give the plant sufficient water to produce fruit.
