Botanical Name: Ficus tikoua
Mature Size: 4-6ft H, 3-5ft W, Size Pruning and Frost Dependent
Light Requirement: Sun to Partial Shade
Water Need: Low
Cold Hardiness: Zone 10 (30 to 35F) to 11 (above 40F)
Description: Adapted. Lesser-known evergreen climbing fig (or shrubby plant) related to fig ivy. Small, glossy leaves; vigorous growth. Not reliably hardy below 30F; leaves may drop and stems may die back in freezes, insulated roots often resprout. Because protection is needed, regular pruning is key: cut back growth in late summer or early fall to keep the plant compact and portable if container-grown, or prune after winter dieback to encourage dense new shoots. These activities will limit yearly mature size. Aerial roots allow it to cling tightly to masonry or trellises, but may stain or damage surfaces, so placement should be chosen with care. Thrives with bright light and consistent moisture, with some afternoon shade in the hottest months. Best for sheltered courtyards, patios, or containers where its lush texture can be showcased year after year with protection and pruning.
