Description: Deciduous large, thorny, shrub to small tree native to Texas. Leaves are arrow shaped. Flowers are red, upright spikes, appearing in late spring before the leaves, followed by long black pods. Flowers attract hummingbirds. In colder areas, plant will die back to ground and emerge in spring which limits growth to the shorter end of the spectrum.
