Description: Small deciduous shrub or subshrub prized for aromatic, gray-green foliage and late-summer blooms in shades of blue and violet. Thrives in well-drained soils and sunny spots, so ideal for xeriscapes, pollinator gardens, and borders. Ideally with protection from late afternoon sun. Attracts bees, butterflies, and  beneficial insects when many other plants have finished blooming. Pefers lean soil and should be pruned back in early spring to encourage dense growth. Not usually browsed by deer. Avoid heavy clay or soggy areas.

Common Varieties:

x c Blue Mist: Most widely grown cultivars. Soft lavender-blue flowers and silvery foliage. Compact and reliable in Austin landscapes.
x c Dark Knight: Deep cobalt-blue flowers and tidy, upright form. Excellent color contrast against light-colored stone or mulch.

Sunshine Blue: Bright chartreuse-yellow foliage with soft blue blooms; adds strong color contrast in mixed borders. More compact and heat-tolerant than other varieties.
