Description: Adapted. Low, clumping cactus of Argentina, prized for its massive, night-blooming white flowers that can reach up to 8 inches across. Flowers are fragrant and bloom in flushes from late spring through summer. Forms dense mounds of upright, ribbed stems armed with golden-yellow to brown spines. Thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, spreading gradually over time, wider in Austin. Heat- and drought-tolerant once established, but benefits from occasional deep watering during dry spells. Protect from extended freezes during harsh winters. Ideal for borders, rock gardens, or feature beds where its striking blooms and sculptural form can shine.
