Description: Adapted. Tropical, fast-growing cactus known for dramatic three-sided stems and large, fragrant night-blooming white flowers followed by edible red, pink, or yellow-skinned fruit. Requires a trellis or post structure to support its climbing, sprawling growth. While it thrives in heat and sun, partial afternoon shade can prevent scorching in extreme temperatures. Not frost-tolerant -- best grown in large containers or raised beds that can be protected or moved during freezes. Needs more water than desert cacti, especially during fruiting season, but should not sit in soggy soil. Performs best in rich, well-drained cactus soil with regular summer watering and dry winter conditions. A showy, productive cactus ideal for edible landscapes and tropical-style gardens in protected microclimates.
