Description: Adapted. Slender, columnar cactus of high-altitude regions of Bolivia and Argentina. Covered in dense, silvery-white spines giving it a frosted appearance. Grows in upright clumps, forming colonies over time. Produces narrow, tubular reddish flowers along the sides of the stems in summer, often pollinated by hummingbirds. Grown in containers, expect 3-5ft H, 1-2ft W. More cold-hardy than many columnar cacti; it still requires excellent drainage and dry winter conditions. Performs best in full sun but benefits from afternoon shade in intense summer heat or containers. Ideal for vertical accents in rock gardens, cactus beds, or raised pots with winter mobility.
