Description: Adapted. Massive, columnar cactus with thick blue-green stems; prominent white to golden spines. Resembles the iconic Arizona saguaro; grows faster and is more cold-tolerant, making it suitable for Austin's climate with protection from hard freezes. Large, night-blooming white flowers near the crown in summer, attract pollinators. Fruit is green to reddish or purple. Requires excellent drainage and benefits from some afternoon shade in extreme heat or reflected light. Performs best in raised beds or large containers that can be sheltered in winter.
