Monocarpic (dies after flowering) and typically produces few or no offsets. Flower spike, at 10-20 years, may reach 10-14 feet tall. Pale yellow blooms attract pollinators. Tolerant of heat and drought but benefits from afternoon shade in hot or highly reflective sites. Requires sharp drainage, along with protection from hard freezes; prolonged winter wetness.
